Influencer Marketing

“A brand is no longer what we tell the consumer it is, it is what consumers tell each other it is”

– Scott Cook

Wouldn’t it be amazing if you could ask consumers to recommend your product to other consumers?  That’s what influencer marketing is, and here are the reasons why your brand needs to hop on the train now.

Influencers, also known as opinion leaders, are social media accounts that have a large, active community following them. These accounts are on platforms such as Instagram, Youtube, and Facebook and their themes can range from comedy skits and cooking shows, to beauty tutorials.

With over 4 billion people using the internet and almost 3 billion of them active on social media, the online audience is enormous and is a feeding ground for business.

However, due to too many ads, much of the online audience is becoming more sceptical of the content being directed at them.  In fact, 11% of internet users install ad blockers to prevent marketing campaigns from reaching their devices.

The power of influencers, however, lies within their relationship with their audience.  Influencers are able to maintain a level of trust with their audience that businesses struggle to achieve.  A study even showed that 88% of people trust influencers to give honest opinions of a product or service as much as they trust their friends’ opinions.

Not only that, at least 60% of consumers have been influenced by social media before buying a product.  Businesses can tap into this trust by partnering with influencers to reach new audiences without having to worry about first building trust with them directly.

One common misconception is that influencer marketing is not cost-effective.  This is not true.  In fact, many businesses are making as much as $6.50 for every $1 spent!  89% of companies say that the return of investment of influencer marketing is equal to or better than other marketing tactics.  If your business cannot afford to spend a part of the budget towards influencer marketing, that’s okay too. Although it’s better to compensate influencers with cash, many also accept free products in return for their efforts.  Influencer marketing is so effective, however, that 65% of influencer marketing budgets have increased in 2019.
